Overview

The proposal is for a new five-storey steel framed building (plus roof top plant room) constructed over the existing basement. The rear of the building is cut back to allow daylight into the existing Roberts Building. The front elevation is louvred to provide solar shading to the southern aspect, whilst creating a level of detail similar to that of the surrounding architecture.

The selection of materials will visually link the recently completed Malet Place building with the new Front Building whilst complementing the church stonework, light brickwork and terracotta tiles evident in the local neighbourhood. One of the many challenges on this project was mini piling in the congested basement area without disturbing existing services and experiments in adjoining occupied areas.

We have been involved on this project from the very start carrying out scaffolding works for the site cabin set up and enabling works.  This developed into the main scope of works erecting independent scaffold to the perimeter of the building for multi trade access.  Due to the complex design several adaptions were required.  The scaffold was boarded at storey lift heights.

In addition to the main external we provided hoist scaffolds, running beams with electric hoists, system stairs, lift shaft and riser scaffolds, monarflex sheeting with frame, crash deck scaffolds for demolition, loading gantry, heavy duty ramps and various handrail requirements throughtout the project.
